Allen Iverson is no Santa Claus

1996-7.jpg(BRING THE OLD SIXERS UNIFORMS BACK ! S4G CAMPAIGN - SIGN HERE)

Dear Sixers fans,

tomorrow Allen Iverson will come to the Wachovia Center, to play in Philly for the first time with another jersey on.

He wore the Sixers uniform for years (one of the nicest ones is in the pic), and always honoured it.

His name will be linked to some of the best seasons of this franchise after the glorious 80’s.

Give Bubba Chuck the loud, long standing ovation he fully deserves.

Thank him for what he did for the Sixers organization through the years: hard play, amazing moments, hilarious rants.

Then root for the new, Iverson-less Sixers to beat his Nuggets.

That’s how it’s supposed to be.

I know Philly is the town where fans once booed Santa Claus (LOL @ that story, always one of my favorite…) but don’t be bad with one of the most exciting athletes to ever play this game. He’s no Santa Claus, and he’s no Webber either.

Iverson video, Lou Williams video, Carney poll

Posted by Ricky - Sixers4guidos on January 4, 2008

While getting ready for the Lakers game of this morning (4.30 GT = guidos time), the first italian Sixers blog is adding new features, that you will hopefully appreciate.

The first one is a brand new, very cool Allen Iverson You Tube video that my friend Matteo, a.k.a. “marco.materazzi.23“, made by himself. The interesting thing is that Matteo is a diehard Lakers fan (you will see it at the end of the video) but he always liked Iverson. I will follow the game live this morning chatting with Matteo and making fun of each other’s team, in the meantime show him some love, I think he really did a nice job.

The second video I would like to share with S4G readers is the Lou Williams block on Okur + alley oop dunk during the Jazz game, if you don’t know what I’m talking about read my recap. I thought that the play would have been Top 3 material but they didn’t include it even in the Daily Top 10… pretty unbelievable to me… well, I’m making up for it:

The third one is pretty much a joke, but I like it. I can’t post real polls on this site, you know, the cool ones, where you can click your option, see the results with the percentages etc etc… impossible on this platform.

So in order to reply to the “poll”, you should leave a comment below, indicating WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RODNEY CARNEY MOMENT OF THE SEASON so far (links are to S4G articles, not to videos, I couln’t find any so far… any help would be appreciated here):

1) the “1-vs-0″ missed dunk (vs Jazz at Utah, Jan 2nd 200 8) - An amazing play that he’s making us used to and that follows many similar ones, see the finest case.

2) the airball on the free throw (vs Knicks at MSG, 8th December 2007) - Not bad for a supposed “shooting” guard that thinks to have also three point range.

3) getting blocked by Mike Miller (vs Grizzlies at Memphis, 22nd December 2007) - Well, not trying to influence you, but this is a great accomplishment and my personal favorite, I even have the picture: Read the rest of this entry »

Serbian symbol reunites Kobe & Shaq

Posted by Ricky - Sixers4guidos on October 2, 2007

(Thought this could be funny..)

If you think they didn’t/don’t get along, you are wrong.

Kobe Bryant & Shaquille O’Neal actually found something in common, the passion for lovely Serbia and one of its traditional national symbols, “tri prsta” (=three fingers):

New season approaches. Fantasy season too

Posted by Ricky - Sixers4guidos on September 29, 2007

aiguodala03.jpgI know I haven’t been updating this blog for a while. It’s just that I am working like crazy, and it will go on like this until October 15th. Whatever.

The good thing is there is nothing worth commenting in Sixers world, so we are not missing anything. This article by Sixers beat writer Marc Narducci shows that there is no big news in these days: reading quotes such as “The Sixers will announce Monday that they are taking a 17th player to training camp, 7-foot-3 center Shagari Alleyne, who played three seasons at the University of Kentucky but sat out last season when he transferred to Manhattan” one can realize that journalists have troubles filling a whole article about our favourite team…

All the attention in Philly is captured by the Phillies late run (I started to check MLB scoreboards and standings…) and the Eagles start of the season.

Same for Philly/Sixers blogs, with the notable exception of Jon (+ Brendan) of Passion & Pride, who is doing a wonderful job, always finding something interesting to cover, even taking it from the past (videos, analysises, memories..), so if you want to have your almost daily dose of Sixers stories, log on to their site while I am away.

With this remarkable off season posts, P&P confirms once more it’s by far the best Sixers blog you can find on the net.

Back to the new basketball season(s), I joined a couple of Yahoo NBA Fantasy leagues - one with guys from the Sixers board of philly.com, the other with serbian friends from B92 forum - so I thought that switching to some fantasy topics would be fun. Read the rest of this entry »

Sixers already under .500, panic time

Posted by Ricky - Sixers4guidos on July 10, 2007

louis_williams_summer-league.jpg…aaaahhhh, where is dear old John Salmons when you need him?

I took a look at Sixers roster on NBA.com and he’s nowhere to be found. Then I realized he is no more a Sixers and I immediately got relaxed. Whew !! We managed to ship that bum, finally. What is more surprising, this or the fact the somebody else signed him?

This smart thought allowed me to go to a further step: remembering that Salmons “plays” for the Sacramento Kings now. So I checked the Kings roster but among the Cezary Trybanskis, the Christian Marakers and the Nik Caner-Medleys of this world he’s nowhere to be found again.

At the end of the day the main question then is: how can a Summer League start without John “Summer League” Salmons ????? The king of the useless career high, the sultan of garbage games, the MVP of the off season(s), the star of the “When it doesn’t count” selections. If the NBA was played from July to August, John Salmons would be a HOF, mark my words.

Still, I read a lot of comments about the Sixers Summer League in Vegas Read the rest of this entry »
