Good trade Billy King. Now you can go
Posted by Ricky - Sixers4guidos on December 20, 2006
So it’s Andre Miller, Joe Smith and two first round picks. That’s what Billy King managed to obtain from the Nuggets for Allen Iverson . Great? So-and-so? Bad? We say ok, good trade.
A solid player, who was an all star some years ago and can give us a nice contribution immediately and in the two years remaining on his contract, Smith’s 7 millions expiring next summer and two (late, probably) more picks in what it’s supposed to be one of the best, deepest drafts ever, in which the Sixers will likely have three calls.
We say “likely” because today nobody thinks that we will make the playoffs, even if Boston, currently pacing the Sad-lantic Division at 10-13 (.435) , is only five games ahead of our poor 5-18 (.217). And just to complete the outlook, keep in mind also that the last spot for the postseason today would belong to Miami, ranked 8th at 11-13 (.458) while we are writing this. That’s a 5.5 games distance, with 59 games to play !!!
But we will talk about what’s left of this season and what to do – AND WISH ! – in the next four months in another post (it’s basically the “tank the season?” debate), now let’s go back to King.
We think that Billy King must go now. Why? Because this trade is simply the latest evidence that he is a mediocre GM. As we said in another post, he’s simply “good” in correcting the mistakes he did.
He gives Mutombo (who was already 46 years old by that time) a God-knows-how-long extention? Than he ships him to the Nets for Van Horn and Mc Cullouch.
He signs Snow to a 5 years deal? He finally realizes he was on something and trades him for two scrubs (Ollie and Kendrick Brown).
He signs Kenny Thomas to a 7 years deal? He packs him later, together with Williamson and Skinner, and lands Webber.
He gives Greg Brickner and Aaron Mc Kie more insane, long contracts? Then he somehow buys them out, or waives them.
Wanna go on? We could: Derrick Coleman (extended, traded) Glenn Robinson (got, traded), the aforementioned Van Horn (landed, traded) Randy Ayers (promoted, fired), Jim O’ Brien (signed, fired*)… ok, ok, enough, you got the point: NO STRATEGY.
We could make the lottery or somehow reach the playoffs, even with a 35-38 W record. We don’t care. Either way, Billy King has to go.
If we have to start it all over, we want new players but mostly a new coach and a new GM. And a plan, please.
(* = again, we liked JOB… In this case the mistake was to fire him afetr only one, winning, season.)

Is there any way you can remove people from that

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?
I’m going to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough
time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most
blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique. P.S
Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!
